This truly bespoke kitchen, designed by Lisa Melvin, features the first ever, customisable glass door range - Kioo.
Featuring Opti clear glass-fronted cabinets, manufactured in Britain, by LJ Design House, this kitchen was used to meet the clients’ brief for a contemporary, unique, minimalist kitchen living space. The couple wanted to spend time together in this space and be able to watch TV while preparing food as they are both keen sports fans. They were looking for a kitchen where they could entertain in style and relax.
Soil pipes were already in place in this new-build so the design had to work around this, which meant that certain services could not be placed in the centre of the room. Storage was a key feature in this minimalist kitchen design so all of the cabinet interiors were designed to accommodate every need. The fully extendable two-metre long drawers, which can hold up to 80kg in weight, are great for storing large pots and pans and a stylish tambour door hides all mini appliances away from view. The integrated Krüshr recycling waste disposal unit is an eco-friendly feature that allows you to crush rubbish before recycling it, giving you 4x more space in the bin.
The client chose a calming shade of cream for the Kioo glass units (these new units are available in a range of colours), which contrast perfectly against the polished silestone worktop and lighten or darken according to the changes in natural light levels throughout the day.
The clients both enjoy entertaining and one of their requirements was a seamless central work surface. An induction hob has been fitted flush to the island unit for an ultra sleek cooking platform. It looks great and is easy to keep clean. An incredibly quiet, unusual, Pando designer cooker hood above has been fitted with an external motor, so every conversation can be heard with ease. Top specification Neff appliances add to this cooking and entertaining arena featuring a high performance coffee machine, oven, steam oven, combination microwave and warming drawer.
Bar stools create a comforting space to relax on one side of the island unit. A stylish Kuppersbusch American-style fridge freezer and an iconic Fisher & Paykel double DishDrawer dishwasher make entertaining easy and complete the contemporary look.
“Our kitchen has been thoroughly thought out and great care and attention to detail has been taken when designing the layout. Everything has a home - the Krüshr recycling unit is built into a cabinet, the InSinkErator in the sink, the dishwasher fits perfectly inline with the units and the bank of Neff appliances all line up within the wall cabinets and make an impressive cooking zone when you walk into the kitchen.
Lisa has created a funky living space that is ultra stylish and practical as a kitchen, with the latest innovative technology and appliances, but also a great room for entertaining our friends and family in.”
